Description Suggest change

The Near East is another name for the southeast corner of the southern Wonderland of Rocks and made up of a series of six rocky canyons which run parallel to one another.

Some of the closer crags are semi-popular and it's not unusual to see hikers due to the nearby Wall Street Stamp Mill, however the more distant crags tend to be virtually crowd-free.

Getting There Suggest change

Drive past the Barker Dam turn-off, staying more-or-less straight, onto a dirt road and then make a quick left onto another dirt road which heads east to a dirt parking lot with an outhouse.

This is the trailhead for the southern Wonderland and the approach starts the same, but where the main Wonderland trail heads sharply left, passing Uncle Willie's, stay straight for a bit and then veer left along well-defined trails to the Stamp Mill and the various crags.

The approach takes roughly 15-45 minutes to reach the various crags in the Near East.
