Description
The Lost River Range is Idaho's tallest. It contains 7 of the 9 12ers in Idaho, including Idaho's highest peak, Mt. Borah.
While the range may be known for loose, chossy rock, there are certainly exceptions to this rule. There are also many alpine ice routes that form up every year, and a massive potential for ski mountaineering.
Getting There
The range runs north to south. Highway 93 runs along the west side of the range between Arco and Challis. Because of this, access to routes from the west side is fairly straightforward.
The east side, however, is much more difficult to get to. For routes originating on the east side, turn east off of highway 93 onto Doublespring Pass road, about a mile north of the Mount Borah trailhead turnoff. Proceed over Doublespring Pass and then navigate the maze of backroads to your trailhead. These roads are very rugged and a high clearance vehicle is mandatory.
