Description
The Hex wall is a great wall reaching heights of 70ft and has one of the best views of c-lane from the other side of the valley. The Hex wall has a few 2 to 4 star traditional crack climbs that provide fun movement and great gear placements. This cliff is in the shade most of the day and is a great place for the hot summer days.
The Hex wall host one of Welsford most physically demanding overhanging traditional routes Welcome to Welsford and also one of the most mentally demanding routes Squeeze Whiz that consists of 5.8 climbing and 30 feet of squeezing through a thin chimney like slot.
The Hex wall can be accessed from the top by bush whacking to the right of the great roof until you reach the top of the cliff. There are a few mini cliffs, loose rocks and holes so watch your step.
Getting There
At eagle rock there is a main amphitheater shaped wall with the tallest section on the left and the great roof on the right. Follow the trail beneath the great roof down over a small boulder field; the trail to the Hex wall is on the left after about hundred feet down.
The Hex wall can be accessed from the top by bush whacking to the right of the great roof until you reach the top of the cliff. There are a few mini cliffs, loose rocks and holes so watch your step.
* A new faster approach has just been developed for the Hex Wall. Follow directions above but instead of turning into the woods at the cairn continue along the road for another 150 meters. Look for pink flagging tape which marks the beginning of the new trail that will lead you upwards through the trees to the Hex Wall just 200 meters from the road. Approach time is about 12 minutes. This could also be used as a faster way to get to the other walls above Hex.
