DescriptionMost northern notch in N.H. Very narrow, very small, and very rugged.
Getting ThereGetting there depends on where you are coming from. The nearest towns are Colebrook to the west, and Errol to the East. (Errol is on Rt 16 about 1 1/2 hrs north of the Gorham/Berlin area, then 20-30 min. on the Notch road, Route 26.
There once was a resort hotel named the Balsams, once one of the "Grand Hotels" of America but now closed. (2014 update, see photo) Errol is pretty small but may have a motel or "guest house".
Parking and accessibility to climbing area is conveniently off the road. There is only one ice flow I am aware of. The flow starts very close to the road, and is thick with a long ice/snow ramp below it. There shouldn't be any waiting in line to do ice climbing in this area, and even if there is the flow is usually wide enough for two parties.
