Description

The city of Wanaka offers a number of sport climbing opportunites about 15km west of town in the Matukituki Valley. There are a large number of easy to access routes for the locals or visiting climbers. There is a wide range of climbing from 5.5 to 5.13. Check for seasonal closures, since the climbing areas are on pastoral lease land. The lambing season is from Oct 1 to November 15th. For more thorough and complete information on areas, routes, and closures, the excellent guidebook "Wanaka Rock" is available from Basecamp Wanaka and sometimes shops in town.

Getting There

Take the Matukituki Valley road west out of Wanaka for about 15km.
