Access Issue: IMPORTANT notes on Wet Rock and Human Waste Details

WET ROCK: The sandstone in Red Rocks is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. Holds rip off and climbs have been and will continue to be permanently damaged due to climbers not respecting this phenomenon. After a heavy storm the rock will remain wet, sometimes for several days. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB IN RED ROCKS DURING OR AFTER RAIN. A good rule of thumb is that if the ground near your climb is at all damp (and not powdery bone-dry sand), then do not climb. There are many alternatives (limestone, granite, basalt, and plastic) nearby.

HUMAN WASTE: Human waste is a major issue plaguing the area. The Southern Nevada Climbers Coalition (SNCC) works to provide "wag bags" free of charge in several locations: Black Velvet Canyon, The Hamlet, Kraft Mountain Area, The Gallery, and The Black Corridor. These bags are designed so that you can pack your waste out. Consider bringing one to be part of your daily kit no matter where you go. Once used, please dispose of them properly. Do not throw them in the toilets at the parking areas.

Description

This is a new crag that was put up with a wide variety of climbing styles in mind. The south side is in the shade all day so is great when it’s hot out and the north side is shaded for about over half the day depending with routes you climb. It’s also in the canyon and surrounded with walls on both sides so there is very little wind. The area is very open for belaying and child friendly. The types of climbs range from slab/tech climbing to pumpy hueco styles. The big thing is it’s close to the parking lot. Very important note that these are new routes and a helmet is suggested in case of rock breaks and sand from routes. We tried to break as much of the rock around as anticipated but people will climb all over when it comes to routes. If any new routes are added, please continue the parody music trend that the wall is following. Also the Tortuga wall is shortly on the other side of this and you can easily make a day of good routes ranging from 5.8-5.11s.

Getting There

It’s about 5 mins from the parking lot of Calico Pull out. Once you come down the stairs, stay to the right and walk towards the Viagara tower. It’s another 300 feet beyond that to the East. In the book, this has a little of the fifty-five wall on it but since a new amount of routes are being added to this area and it’s getting developed, this is the name being given since the climbing route names have a trendy name that goes with the name of the wall (spoiler…. Think musical songs before the 2000s and make them into rock climbing parodies).
