Ma Ja wrote: This is the truth. But if more people were willing to vote FOR someone or something, things would change. In other words, if people gave a shit about people as much as climbers cared about backcountry babes, we'd have a much more just system, and country to live in. Maybe I'm just too old to be an idealist. The two party system is what it is, and people are who they are, so I'm going to keep voting in a way that maximizes the likelihood of the best (or least bad) outcome.

If you're a boomer, then yes, you're correct, it's your generation's lack of "idealism" that got us here. Luckily when you all are gone there will be no more Republicans, just Corporate Democrats and Progressives. Unfortunately, half of my generation, and younger, doesnt like to work, so it'll probably fall apart anyway. Bevin was a worse politician than Hillary. Even right wingers hated him. I guess you cant go after teachers, and you cant come up with fake guarantees about how a teacher strike is getting children "sexually assaulted". Who knew? I think he thought he was Trump.

Not a boomer but, actually, the "idealism" of people voting 3rd party is nothing new. John Anderson running as an Independent in 1980 badly damaged Jimmy Carter's chances at re-election and gave us Reagan as president, which set off a cascade of things that lead to where we are today. Ross Perot won something close to 20% of the popular vote in 1992, hurting Bush the first and helped put Clinton into office, so I suppose I'll thank him for that. Can't blame Boomers for the Electoral College, which is the real turd in the punchbowl.

One generation making fun of another? Man, this thread is getting really productive (deteriorating). Personally, I think it's the sun's fault.
"It's the Boomers' fault." Now, there's an eloquent argument.

Between banking/finance, and the for profit prison system/three strikes you're out laws, among many other horrors, he was a true monster that we're still being tormented by. I cant think of a single decent president in the last 50 years. And before that, well, if you were white, then you had a chance, otherwise, good fckn luck at having any sort of decent life. When the majority of people do finally wake up, they'll realize that neither party is for the working class. I think we're approaching that tipping point now.

If you can't see a distinction between Clinton (despite his problems) and Bush I. Or between Obama and Trump, well, you're on your own, son.

Sure. Two are wolves, and two are wolves in sheep's clothing, kinda like a famous backcountry website we all once loved. Thanks for the opening to get us back on topic!

Boy did that hopeful moment on the fringe backfire into precipitating right wing court appointments who bolstered contractual binding arbitration clauses. Ralph Nader talks a great game but has not delivered the goods in decades. If you don’t like unfair corporate practices, ironically Ralph Nader played a material role in many of them being adjudicated into being legally unchallengeable. haha! This is great stuff. I love it when postmodern atheists attack each other.

Mister Rice I would hate to have a conversation with you. It would be terrible. You're a concrete reason Trump exists. You probably consider yourself charitable for acknowledging that Slick Willy had "problems"
