Hardest I've climbed in a gym was a 5.10 at Active Climbing in Augusta, Georgia and I'm pretty close to 5.9 at The Edge in Melbourne, Florida. Does anyone have knowledge on any comparison? To be honest YDS really perplexes me and I have never seen any comparison scale that was accurate. I feel I have enough knowledge to determine bouldering grade, but definitely not YDS. Very odd. Very confusing. Was this worth reviving this thread?

What does it mean if I can climb 5.12 outside but 5.10 inside? Thanks!

Clearly what we need is a more complicated grading system to fully capture the diversity in 5.9

ne? Neon? Nebraska? New England? Idk what "ne" is supposed to mean. A 5.9 is 5.9 bro...doesn't matter how it feels or if it's fingers, fists, crimps, jugs, steep, slab, in J-Tree or in the Gunks. Just 'cause someone has smaller hands or sucks at crimping or lives in NY doesn't change the consensus grade. Now with that said I won't tell you that you can't tick a 5.9 as 5.15, but you'll look mighty foolish if ya did, and it won't actually change the grade of the climb.
