What are the basic prerequisites to be met in order to refer to a climb as a “rig”… while avoiding red flag territory.

Are these …urges unclean across the board?

Can you break this down a bit? Not quite sure what you are implying.

Outside of the US, what we call an anchor (multiple attachment points to the wall for the purpose of belaying a follower) is traditionally called a belay. So the textbook is saying you should use D biners for creating your *anchor*. That's my interpretation at least, not that I agree with it

Editors' Choice Classic: Black Diamond ATC-Guide Belay Device

Before the ATC there were Sticht plates, you used figure 8s, munters, and body belays

The Lowe/Latok Tuber - the original 'tube', presumably - appears in the 1988 Mountain Tools catalogue.

The tuber was and is an excellent device. I've still got one but I prefer the modern versions of this concept.

Haven't heard of that one, in the image they show a symmetrical D carabiner as well even, but the last part says use with HMS Karabiner.

I climbed with a partner in Eldo a couple weeks ago and I thought that that was an interesting tube style device. Had no idea it may be older than I am!

We climbers owe so much to the legacy of the Lowe clan, it really is amazing.

People used to say, "Climb when ready."

Reminds me of road sign: Be prepared to stop. When driving one should allways be prepared to stop. Or: End construction. Really? Like in protest? This road's pretty messed up I'm thinking.

My similar favorite: Pass Only When Oncoming Traffic Not Present.

This needs to be said?

Yes. Everyone seems to expect everybody else to get out of their way.

Hey man, this is page 11.   By this time threads are looking for any nail thru the palm to keep it alive

But here’s a red flag for ya: People who quote old movies that probably half of MP hasn’t even seen

To check for bots we should really just start asking them what’d they do if they were walking in the desert and flipped a tortoise upside down on its shell.

If someone nails a Bladerunner quote, that’s a huge green flag for me.

Or the corollary:

“I don’t use any gear or technique unless it came along in the last ten years, I saw an AMGA ‘guide’ use it on a YouTube vid, and my gym brahs use it.”

Why is this a red flag? It’s so cute!
