Proudest climbing achievement of 2018?

Taking my 8 yo and 5 yo girls up 4 outdoor climbs this past fall. Halter Top, 5.6 (Gunks), Ridgeback 5.5 (Mt. Lemmon), Practice Cliff Right Route, 5.6 (Mt. Lemmon), Genuflect, 5.6 (Gunks) 8 yo sent all of them (she's been out with me before a few times) 5 yo is tiny... All probably went at 5.10 for her. But she made many solid efforts and got some vertical feet covered. haha.

While that doesn't sound like much... carting little kids to crags, for those who know, IS A MAJOR ORDEAL. lol. We'll get 10x that many done next year. I have the process down-pat now.

Being an east coaster, I finally took my first climbing vacation out west to Colorado, and then subsequently booked my second trip for a couple months later.  Got to climb 2 of the 50 classic climbs of NA in Petit Grepon and Kor-Ingalls on Castleton Tower (special thanks to my climbing partner Alex).  Led my first 10 on trad, I'm sure it wasn't beautiful to watch, but I made it up.  I made myself a couple goals to climb more, and in more places, and I almost doubled my goals. All in all it was a great year for climbing for me.

Hey, we still have 12 more days in 2018. There's still time!

For my most memorable day in 2018, I led Dog Leg, Orphan, and Double Cross on the same day. Too good.

I climbed outside nineteen days (5610 vert)  in November, including sending the crux of a .12a barefoot. My girlfriend also independently decided that she wanted to get into big walling and asked me to teach her to jumar. We skiied into the North Rim last week and rapped the top pitch of Scenic to practice.

I am greatly heartened to hear all of the stories above, especially those who are currently beating cancer and those who are getting their loved ones outside for the first time . @haybooner and @drwatson

I overcame some issues I was having  (not real serious in the big scheme of things but still) and climbed El Cap after a two year hiatus. It ended up being one of my most memorable El Cap ascents.

Love to see some Peterskill pride! Kudos! Particularly Genuflect--that has some balance-y moves that aren't solved by a kid's strength-to-weight ratio. That route made me pause to think on lead--definitely a big challenge for an 8 year old.

pushed my trad grade into the 10s, sent a 5.9 R that most of my friends say "you led that?" to, and led my first pitches of ice just in the last few weeks. i also met a bunch of my route goals for this year, though i still have plenty left in new england for next season. first time visiting squamish and red rocks, can't wait to get back to both. it was an excellent year for climbing.

True! I've got plans to attempt a short-term project tomorrow which I'll probably send (I think I only fell at the crux last time due to a dumb mistake of putting a cam in a key crux hold).

Only puked my brains out 6 times.
That’s my best climbing story.

... He didn't mention that he also still onsights 5.11 trad and WI5.

Jon you are a legend. Keep kicking ass. Looking forward to climbing ice with you soon.

Led my first ice pitch of the new season, 9 months after having a STEMI ice climbing.

So happy to be able to do this again. Living is way better than dying.

Moved to Idaho. Did some climbing in COR. Ticked off most of Bingham's "Ten and Under Trad List" in the Guide Book...that Double Cracks start is damn hard!

PS- Is White Lightning still closed? I'm pretty sure yes...but it would be awesome if it wasn't.

Moved to the Red.

Climbed outside more days than last year.

Got on some easy boulders in Yosemite with my kids for a couple of days.

Sean's forgetting to tell you about all of the tricams he placed at City of Rocks.  Inside joke.

My proudest climbing achievement of 2018 was getting married to this girl and getting to travel all over the United States with her.  Couldn't have really asked for much more.

This thread is so full of positive energy.  I find it very inspiring.

After setting it as a goal four years ago, I finally got up El Capitan via the Salathé Wall route.

There were many memorable milestones along the way, including sleeping on a portaledge, climbing the University Wall (aid), and climbing in Jasper, AB for the very first time.  Nature has been very generous to me in 2018.  I'm keeping my fingers crosser that 2019 will also bring great walls and great climbing conditions.

Looking through these make me happy! Here's to continued positivity in the new year!

I left Vegas after 13 years for the Front Range. Bittersweet, but proud I made the jump.
First 12a onsight in a decade.
Met a bunch of new climbing friends.
Now to find some lines to develop....

I've been climbing just under 2 years now and trad climbing for about 1 year of that. I lead the Casual route on the Diamond ( car to car 20 hrs) and Lead my First Trad 11 in Eldo this year!

My partners and I put up a new 5-pitch, boltless route in Icebox Canyon at Red Rocks.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
