Who's doing your vids? Where are you guys based out of? $5/month for your site vs $1/month at Deadpoint. I know for a fact their videographers are the real deal. It sounds like the terms of service require unpaid members to cough the content. What exactly do you do? |

Andrew Hohncke wrote:Tell me why I should. Seriously. Although there may be many reasons why you should, I'll try to put one in terms that I hope you can understand and that isn't the same old-same old: You sign up for $5 a month (17 cents a day) and the moment you sign-up you're taken to a page where if you do one simple thing you get a $35 chalk bag. You do it again right after you just did it and you get another $35 chalk bag or $120 pair of mad rock climbing shoes. All of a sudden you've gotten $155 worth of things in 10 minutes (all dependent on only you) for $5. You don't have to be a business major to realize that's an incredibly good reason to join. Are you the same Andrew Hohncke fresh out of high school going to Carlson School of Management? (first thing google turns up). Is this some kind of "business exercise?" |

Julius Beres wrote: Are you the same Andrew Hohncke fresh out of high school going to Carlson School of Management? (first thing google turns up). Is this some kind of "business exercise?" Whatever the case may be I will point out a couple of things: 1. You are dishonest and being dishonest is not a good way to win customers. First you say that you just have to do a simple thing and you get a chalk bag (I will ignore the blatant lie that a chalk bag is worth $35). Then when people point out that the website mentions there is a "chance" to win, you say it is a contest dependent on you.... but this is still not a simple thing, nor is it solely dependent on the person, since it matters what other people submit. I think most people can appreciate that businesses want to make money, and in order to do so, on average, they cannot give away more than they take... be honest about this. 2. You have absolutely no credibility. Who are you? Are you a climber? Are the people running the site climbers? What do they know about climbing and why should I care what random people who claim to be climbers have to say? There is no "about the site" page that talks about who runs the site and those people's backgrounds. 3. There is no preview. No one will pay for some unknown thing. A preview page of the prizes/contests to win them along with frequency of awards would help. Some kind of sample of the site would also help. Sure, Apple can label a brick the iPhone 7 and people will buy it, but no sane person will buy what some anonymous person is selling without being given any information. 4. Stop treating your potential customers as idiots. "Oh $5/month is only 0.17 a day..." Why not "$5/month is $600/decade!" Just state the price and stop doing cheesy late night infomercial lines. Finally, there are already good online communities for rock climbing. There are sites that offer value to the participants and they do not do it in a sleazy way. I have no objection to the ads displayed on Mountain Project, and in fact, I realize that they not only bring the site revenue, but also alert interested people to good deals. In a good business, the owners make money while providing customers enough benefits that they gain more than they pay. When Mountain Project releases their droid app, I will happily pay them money. They have proven their utility and have established a good relationship with their users. At this point, you would need to do a hell of a lot to overcome the initial impressions you have made here for me to ever consider paying money for your service. Very well said. Bump |

Sounds a bit exclusive to me |

Why not at least allow people to view an album of videos (but not be able to play them) and look at a select forum of the message board without being able to post? And then be able to look at a list of possible prizes and past winners? Guaranteed that would satisfy at least a couple people. But why pay for something when you have no clue what it is? Even someone broke like me can afford 5 bucks a month, but I'm not just going to rip up a five spot and toss it in the trash. |

Having a little bit of experience in business, both as an entrepreneur and in the corporate arena, I started to write a critique of Andrew's business model and posts. However, after about 30 seconds I decided that it was not worth my time. Andrew is at best being vague as to how the site works, and at worst is being totally duplicitous regarding what you get for your money. I have an extreme dislike for that kind of BS sales and marketing, especially when it is being done in a community based forum. In addition, his smarmy reply ("I'll try to put one in terms that I hope you can understand") makes me think that this is not the kind of dude whose business I would like to support. |

Summit makes porn among other things....... Not sure what that has to do with anything in this discussion. |

I think this is going to be a VERY exclusive club/site. Membership = 1. |

If any of you decide to cough up the $5 bucks and try the site out I'd love a review. Some screen shots and information on it would be great |
