Alright then.

This one goes back a little, one of my favorites:

"I lost myself in the upper air and clouds, seeming to pass an imaginary line which separates a hill- mere earth heaped up- from a mountain, into a superterranean grandeur and sublimity. What distinguishes that summit above the earthly line, is that it is unhandshelled, awful, grand. It can never become familiar; you are lost the moment you set foot there. You know the path, but wander, thrilled, over the bare and pathless rock, as if it was solidified air and cloud. That rocky, misty summit, secreted in the clouds, was far more thrillingly awful and sublime than the crater of a volcano spouting fire."

No and No, both good guesses but slightly older.

Now that I think of it, Muir was close to the same time period.

What a guess. However, what mountian was he talking about was it Washington. I was thinking more like Katahdin?

Anyway, here's mine.

"Put your boots and get going. If you've companion, take a rope with you and a couple of pitons for belays, but nothing else. I'm already on my way, ready for anything - even for retreat, if I meet the impossible. I'm not going to be killing any dragons, but if anyone wants to come with me, we'll got to the top together on routes we can do without branding ourselves murderers"

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
