Featured Trad, Sport, Bouldering, and other popular climbing routes and climbing areas Manlius, New York.
Boulders are slightly off-trail but you won't miss them. Really open area. 15-minute walk following the trail after getting into Green Lakes State Park. Park in the rolling hills camping area. Take Old-growth to Powerline and then take Blackwhite to Indian Ovens. Boulders are off-trail slightly but you won't miss them.
This is not the greatest area in the world to boulder but there are some definite beginner-intermediate problems here. The rock is limestone with some shale. The area is located in the shade and is never busy. The rock wall tops out at 17 feet at the mid section. Bring bug spray or this area will be a nightmare in the summer. Definitely something close if you are a climber in the SU area and are tired pumping plastic. From Syracuse find and take NY-173 E/ E Senaca Turnpike. Clark Reservation will be on the left 1 mile before you hit Jamesville. Continue on the paved road past a fee collection shack (never anyone there). Park in the lot and walk to the main trailhead (pretty obvious). For the original wall: Take the first path to the left (about 100 ft in) and then walk about 400 ft on that path. Before crossing the bridge look to the left and that's it.For Lake Gulley: Walk down the edge trail with the lake on your right. When you reach the picnic table turn left
Exposed climbing with a variety of rock types and difficulties, including a very good stand-alone boulder and shale-style lips that can be found elsewhere in the park. Currently under development, but the potential is very good. The buttress on the left is Left Wall, buttress on the right is Right wall, and the boulder laying by Right Wall is Flying Whale Boulder. Please be aware of the moss! Lake Gulley has a lot of beautiful moss, please try to avoid destroying it at all costs! Mind your feet, don't clean holds you don't need, just respect nature. Walk along the main trail from the parking lot through the playground. After about 500 ft you will reach a picnic table. Turn left and enter the Gulley!
