Description

Named in memory of Calum MacLeod who built the road to the North End. A compact crag that looms over a small valley and has incredible views of Loch Arnish and the magical north east coast of Skye including Kilt Rock, The Old Man of Storr and the Quirang. The crag is easily identified by having four distint vertical cracks on its main face.

The crag is a south facing sun trap making for very pleasant climbing on a good day. It is best on a clear day with a good breeze.

Getting There

From the end of the road take the right hand path (with the pig road sign). This path drops down slightly then takes a 90 degree right turn then a 90 left turn at a blue water pipe. Take note as you will leave the path at the next bend as the path veers right again. Go off the path to the left on a very feint trail at the bend. You will be in the right spot if after about 50ft you can see a fense and gate ahead of you. Go through the gate (please close it behind you) and cross an often boggy patch and up a steep hill opposite. At the top of this hill (once you get above the ferns) turn to the left and head towards and old ruin (just the front wall of a building remains). From here head north west over a series of rocky slabs and dips in the land until you take a 5 ft drop down and the path winds around a bluff. Follow the path around to the left and as it ascends you will begin to be able to see Calums crag on the opposite side of a small valley. Continue on the path as it winds around the back on the bluff to the right and drops down to the far right side of the small valley. Cross a stream and head uphill and left towards the crag. In late summer this final approach can be in 6 foot high ferns. The base of the crag opens up ahead of you as you arrive at the base on the right side of the main wall.
