Description
Driving past the intersection of the Passo Sella and Passo Gardena roads, you're bound to look up at the massive, sheer cliff above and wonder 'WTF is that - is there climbing on that?!'. Indeed, there is.
The steep walls of the Meisules are both feared and respected: the routes are known for their immaculate rock and impressive position, but also for their dearth of fixed gear and mandatory runouts on technically demanding face climbing. The tall central wall of the main formation hosts many classic routes, generally in the UIAA 6-7 range and around 10 pitches long, Via Franz and Via L'Nein being two of the more popular. The steep faces of the two towers to the north of the main formation also hold numerous classic shorter (5-8p) routes on similarly bomber rock, and the right side of the main formation hosts some single+multipitch sport routes on a formation known as the 'Pilastro di Sogni'.
All 3 formations have quick approaches and scenic walkoff descents. Take the (sandbagged) ratings in the Bernardi guide with a hefty grain of salt.
