Description
This is the large, beautiful buttress to the left of The Eaglet and the Flatiron. Expect no crowds, great views and adventurous climbing that feels very alpine in nature.
Getting There
Approach as per The Notches guidebook: Park at the Cannon Tramway and approach as you would for The Eaglet, by walking through the tunnel and following the Greenleaf Trail until you reach a cairn. Follow the approach gully as for The Eaglet and The Flatiron. At the Talus field, split left as you would for the Flatiron, but near the base of the final approach slab, look for a trail that heads down and left past a large boulder, to the base of a buttress. Climb Easy 5th up the short buttress, then over another short bulge. Move back right past some loose blocks, until you see a lone bolt (belonging to Route 66 5.8). This is the base of the Alpine Breeze Wall.
Alternate Approach: There is a way to bushwhack left before you reach the base of the talus, to the toe of a slab below the base of the Alpine Breeze Wall. From here you can climb a neat, 2 pitch 5.7 that goes directly to the base of Route 66. I have not done this route, nor do I know the name, but this is likely to most fun way to get there.
