Description
This is AREA for any and all crags in the Notch. (If you're looking for the "old" Kinsman Notch listing it is now a sub-area: "Luck O' The Irish" )
Hopefully there is more ice climbing in Kinsman Notch than at just this one crag ( Jon Sykes where are you ?!)
Added as a pg improvement 1/18/25 - There are plenty of other ice climbing opportunities in Kinsman Notch. Get yourself a copy of 'An Ice Climber's Guide to Northern New England' or just get out and look around. Hint, the area around Beaver Pond isn't a bad spot to start looking...
Actually, some climbs were added near Besver Pond, but they were deemed a bit too close to the road. That being said, the 1/18/25 advice is “worthy.”
Getting There
From the traffic light on Rt 3 in North Woodstock NH, take Rt 118 West for about 2-3 miles, then take the right onto Rt 112 West. Rt 112 goes right through Kinsman Notch.
Currently, the Luck O' The Irish crag/ice is the only sub-area listed and it is justifiably popular. Go 1.7 miles beyond where Rt 112 breaks off from Rt 118 and park at a less than obvious pull-off on the left side of the road. ( 0.3 Mi. beyond the WMNF sign, and generally plowed out and full of cars on the weekend.)
(Note: If you're coming up from the south on Rt 93 you'll want to take the Lincoln-North Woodstock exit and turn right at the end of the off ramp. A left leads to Lincoln and the Kancamangus Highway (Rt 112 East ), a right leads to North Woodstock and its ubiquitous traffic light.
