Description
Taylor canyon is home to the classic Moses and Zeus towers, as well as the lesser well known Aphrodite and Thracian Mare towers. It is located on the NW side of Island in the Sky. Arguably the area with the most aesthetic desert towers in Canyonlands, though Monument Basin is for sure a candidate.
Getting There
From Moab take Highway 191 north to the well signed left turn onto highway 313 leading to canyonlands and dead horse point. Just before the 10 mile mark, turn right onto a signed road for Mineral Bottom, which is just past the turn for "horsethief campground". Follow this for 13 miles to where it drops down the Mineral Bottom switchbacks to the river. Take a left turn and enter Canyonlands NP proper. From here, the road turns 4wd. Follow it 2-3 miles to the Taylor Canyon turnoff, and follow this road 5 miles to the TH and campsites(reservation needed)
Alternatively, you can hike from Island in the Sky via the Alcove Springs trail 5.6 miles to the towers. From Canyonlands Visitor Center, drive into the park 6miles to the right turn towards Upheaval Dome. Follow this about 5miles to the Alcove Springs TH.
