Description
The West Face area is nestled in steep rugged canyons which makes a 4WD vehicle pretty much mandatory. Once you acquire the means to overcome that obstacle, what lies beyond is an enormous canyon spreading over hundreds of acres of boulder studded land about as far as the eyes can see. The potential here only stops with just how motivated you are to go beyond the roads and trails and reach that far off cluster of boulders in the distance. The boulders here range from sit start one move wonder topouts, to sphincter clenching, no fall zone highballs. There are even a few sport routes to be found among the plethora of boulders. So one might even want to throw a rope and harness in the bag when traveling out here.
The rock is a gritty monzonite, reminiscent of the skin shredding Joshua Tree rock. But unlike Joshua Tree, you'll likely never see another soul out here except for the passing motorcyclist or atv off-road enthusiast.

Camping
There is ample opportunities for camping here. Pretty much anywhere you can park, there is a camping spot. Fire permits are required and you'll have to bring your own wood because there is literally none that can be scavenged from the hillsides.
Getting There
From Doyle, take the Doyle Loop Road and make a turn on Hackstaff Road. Continue for .9 miles to where the pavement ends. When the pavement ends, take the first right which is Homestead Ranch Rd and follow that for 4.4 miles until an obvious split in the road, go right which will pass an old abandoned trailer homestead on your left. Follow the steep dirt road to your intended destination.
