Description

The Cow Skull Boulders are among the first you'll encounter in the West Face Area. There is relatively easy access to the boulders though the area is fairly spread out. But it is set up in such a way that you can start in one area, and make a loop hitting many boulders along the way to easily get in more than a days worth of climbing. Many of the boulders here have seen little traffic and there is ample opportunity for new routes.

Getting There

From the start of the main road by the old abandoned trailer homestead. Continue up the road which requires a high clearance vehicle. 4WD is mandatory with the slightest bit of unfavorable conditions but one could possibly make it to the Cow Skull Boulders with good driving skills, under the best of conditions, with a 2WD high clearance vehicle.
Follow the road up a steep canyon until it veers up left through a steep climb to a ridge. On top of the ridge you'll find a flat area with ample parking and a nice camping spot. Park here and pick the direction you want to start. Cow Skull Boulders 1, 2, 3, and 4 are directly up hill (East) of the parking area. Boulders 8 and 9, along with the Potato and Tombstone boulders are directly North, just on the other side of the small canyon. Boulders 6 and 7 are a short distance further up the road. I would not recommend taking a 2WD vehicle further up the road as you'll notice the road takes a very steep dip down into the canyon before climbing back up the other side. Getting back up this steep drop of loose sandy soil with a 2WD vehicle would be sketchy at best.
