Description
Ulsan-bawi is a granite wall 200m in height and 2km wide. The climbing area is on the east side of the wall. There are about 20 routes including variations. Most climbs are 4-8 pitches long with bolted anchors. Rappel route is in the center gully, and can be rapped 4 times with a single 60m rope.
Getting There
To get to the Ulsan-bawi crag, start with the hiking trail from the Shin-Heung Temple parking lot. Head towards Ulsan-bawi past Gye-Jo-Am. When you encounter the signpost with a 0.8km to Ulsan-bawi sign and a rock climbing notice, take the climber's trail on the right. Follow this trail for another 20 minutes to reach the crag. The approach takes about 1.5 hour.
There are also multi day ridge climbing on Ulsan-bawi. Na-Du-Ri (5.7)and Dol-Jan-Chi (5.11b) follows the ridge line consisting of 30 peaks. Access to Na-Du-Ri and Dol-Jan-Chi branches off from the hiker's trail at the restroom at the end of the stairs. Take the climber's trail on the right to reach the far east side of Ulsan-Bawi which is the base of the ridge. This takes 2.0 hour from the parking lot.
