Description
While Riggins is primarily known for its outstanding whitewater there is also some rock climbing to be had in the area. Most people are familiar with the hard limestone climbing in “The Coliseum” and the project Wall crag, both located up the Seven Devils Road. But there's also a growing number of routes up the Salmon River Road as well.
The lower elevation, hot, steep terrain makes summer climbing mostly a morning thing, followed by a pleasant swim in the river to cool down in the afternoons. But it also allows for good spring and fall climbing when other areas are getting uncomfortably cold, and winter climbing is definitely possible here on the routes which stay dry.
