Description

The Nordens Ark crag is a wonderful cliff with a handful of great moderate routes. The most popular routes are less than vertical and feature face climbing along crack systems. The approach from the parking to the crag is about 1km in length and mostly flat. The cliff is mostly above the trees, faces south and dries quickly.

To descend after climbing, you can walk down a trail that goes around the east (climbers' right) end of the cliff (this only takes a few minutes and is very straightforward), or rappel from a tree with slings with at least a 70m rope (35m rappel).

Getting There

To reach this cliff, drive to the Nordens Ark zoo and park at the north end of the parking lot (coordinates of 58.444429, 11.437373).

From the north (furthest from the zoo entrance) end of the parking area, walk about 30 meters north to a gate in the fence. Go through the gate and then down and left to a bridge over a stream. After crossing the bridge, go up through another gate to the edge of the main highway.

Carefully cross the road (highway 171) and walk generally north on a gravel road about 680 meters to an intersection. You will clearly be able to see the cliff from this point, to the left of center (northwest).

Turn left (west) and follow a gravel road and trail signs about 270 meters as the road parallels the cliff (do NOT cut straight across the field). The road turns right (north) and after about 50 meters, you'll follow an obvious, marked hiking trail north along the west edge of the field to the cliff.

Once below the cliff, at another trail junction, turn right (east; the marked hiking trail goes up and left) and walk along the base of the cliff to the climbs.
