Description Suggest change

This peak sits in-between Lonely Lake and Elizabeth Pass. Its 0.5 miles WNW of Elizabeth Pass. I've also heard this peak called Lonely Peak, it is just north of the Lone Pine Meadow/Tamarack Lake area. The Horn and The Fin are other names that skiers use on the trans-Sierra ski route. The North Arete is a beautiful feature with great rock, varied climbing and a superb location. Many other first ascent possibilities are on the NW face of the peak. Lonely Lake is a beautiful high alpine lake. The SE ridge from Elizabeth Pass is called class 2 and the descent down the south slope is also class 2 and the best descent if your heading back down to the Lonely creek drainage and/or Lone Pine meadow/ Tamarack Lake. Thanks to R.J. Secor and his great resource: The High Sierra Peaks, Passes and Trails.

Getting There Suggest change

A day of walking in and about 14 miles would get you somewhere near the peak. Best camp would be at or near Lonely Lake. It'd be a big day if camped at Lone Pine Meadow. Both the SE ridge and the south slope are class 2 and make the best walk off.

Lonely Lake is also close to Big Bird Peak. Another climb to consider if in the area is the NE Face of Big Bird. Hike through the Tablelands and drop in via the west side to the base of Big Bird.
