Description
**13,194 ft (4,021 m)**
The trail below Mt. Hitchcock may be one of the most popular hiking trails in the range, yet the peak has seen minimal traffic from climbers. Only five routes are KNOWN to be established on the many buttresses spread across the long North-East Face of this peak. The summit views and the climbing on the few routes I sampled personally, is TOP NOTCH. Highly recommend this gem.
Getting There
Depending on the itinerary the approach may vary.
The easiest way is from the Whitney Portal via the Mt. Whitney trail.
I would recommend taking a week off, getting a permit for the North Fork of Lone Pine Creek and hitting up the routes on Mt. Russell, EF of Whitney and maybe even Arctic Lake Wall on the same outing. Or a route on Russell and a few on Hitchcock can make a good four day weekend for the fit.
The psyche is what ultimately determines the itinerary! It is possible to c2c it too, for the REALLY psyched! But the area is so beautiful, I would stay for a while... :)
