Description
The large field of "proper" boulders in the valley below the upper end of the Burbage South cliff band. The boulders lay in an open field and catch lots of sun and wind meaning they dry quickly but can be hot on a warm day. The problems tend to be on the easier side of things and make a good place to learn the intricacies of Grit climbing, what sticks and what does not.
Getting There
Hike up green drive from the parking along A6187, shorter or down the valley from the Burbage Bridge parking. If looking for alternative transportation from Sheffield, the #272 bus towards Castleton will deposit you directly behind the "Fox House" pub, which is about 475 m / 1,500 ft to the south east of the car park along the A6187. From here the boulders are only about a 10 minute walk. You can also take the train from Sheffield to the Grindleford railway station, then hike up the lovely Padley Gorge for about 1.5 miles to the car park or Fox House. This is a great trail run to warm up, but you probably wouldn't want to do it with pads. Both bus and train ride take less than 30 minutes with several returns daily.
