Description

The flying buttress itself is the massive arch feature leaning up against the battery cliff. A good range of climbs on here, from 5.3 (The Flying Buttress up the Westward slab) to 5.12 (The Flying Dutchman on the North side). Most routes are tidal.

Getting There

Several options available. One is to simply scramble down the North side of the slab to the toe of the buttress (easy 5th class terrain).

Alternatively, an abseil from somewhere near the top can be arranged such that you land on the seaward side of the channel beneath the buttress (if it is impassable due to the tide).

Or the "easy way down" is to scramble down above and to the South of the Battery Cliff. At low tide the sea channel can be crossed, allowing access to all routes on the Flying Buttress.
