Description
Tends to be high-ball. Bring your pads.
Getting There
Exit Donner Pass Road on I-80. At the 4-way stop, drive between the two gas stations. Drive 1/2 mile. Turn left into Donner Memorial State Park and park in the free public lot.
(The GPS for the state park page points to the standard dirtbag free parking described in climbing guides, but if you happen to be flush and want to support the state park with your use fees, drive straight in the front gate, and check the state park's website, < parks.ca.gov/?page_id=503>, for current fees, hours and other info. During winter, car access to the campground will be closed anyway.)
Walk into Donner Memorial State Park. Cross the bridge and bear left at the first two forks, keeping the stream on your left and the campground on your right.
After a 5-minute walk you'll arrive at the intersection of four paved paths and see Split Rock.
