Description

The base of the climbs on Blackchurch Rock are only accessible for 3 hours either side of low tide and the starts need a little time to dry out. Blackchurch Main Cliff itself is only slightly tidal at its far left- hand end.

Blackchurch Rock faces northwest and receives sun only on summer evenings, and it is also very exposed to wind and rain. Blackchurch itself also receives very little sun and can take a long time to dry due to the amount of végétation présent on the crag.

Getting There

From the A39 Bude - Bideford road, take the B3248 to Hartiand and turn right after a mile, signed to Hartiand Point and Lighthouse. After a further 3/4 of a mile, turn right, signposted to Brownsham, and follow thèse signs to a small National Trust car park at Brownsham Farm. Walk out of the car park, turn left and pick up a bridleway to Mill Mouth. About 20 minutes walk, all downhill. Some people take mountain bikes to speed things up, but it would be a lot of effort getting back to the car!
