Description Suggest change

Morro da Urca is the shorter neighbor of Pão de Açúcar. It's easily spotted as it's the intermediary in the cable car system going to the top of Pão de Açúcar. There are two faces that are climbed on the Urca: the north and south. The south face is home to a few moderate multi-pitch lines, while the north face has dozens of routes covering a range of difficulties. Most of the routes on the north face are one to two pitch face climbs that are bolt protected.Warning: There is a large loose flake on the north face of the Morro da Urca that makes climbing on the following routes very DANGEROUS: Estranho Prazer, Antonio Callado, Mane Garrincha.

Getting There Suggest change

The routes on the south face are accessed directly from the main trail in the park, which starts to the left of Praia Vermelha (when facing the water.) To access the north face you have to hike up and over the shoulder between the Urca and the Pao de Acucar, and then back down to the bottom of the face. Take the obvious marked trail on your left as you are walking along the main trail, which leads to the top of Morro da Urca. Break off onto a climber trail just before reaching the cable car.
