Description
The Socialist Republic of Vietnam has been visited by famous international climbers for decades however has never seen the development like Thailand. This is likely due to it's lesser quality of weather and more difficulties of travel. If looking to develop new routes be sure to check locally if it is allowed. In some cases you may have to get government approval to bolt.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO DEEP WATER SOLO CHECK THE TIDE INFORMATION OR YOU MAY GO WHEN YOU CAN'T DWS!
Haiphong can provide tide tables. Look for tides over 3 meters in the middle of the afternoon.
A few Travel notes:
For US: Visa is required. It costs $25. You have to submit an e-visa ahead of time on this website: https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/trang-chu-ttdt
Met a lot of people (as of Sept 2023) who had trouble with the submission of e-visa in time of travel. A few tips for the e-visa submission is the "photograph" is just a selfie (do not submit a cropped photo of your passport like the example), add the name of your hotel in the address you are staying (just in case), and include your middle name in the "Given Name" spot. You'll NOT be allowed on your flight to Vietnam if you don't have a visa confirmation. The check-in counter in Tokyo gave us a service to call in Vietnam to get a day-of visa approval and we had to whatsapp someone, send them a photo of our passports, and paypal almost $200 to get a visa-on-arrival. It seemed sketchy, but it worked!
Passports at Hotels:
Most Hotels will want to hold your passports while you are staying with them this is because the manager has to check in with the local police the guests there.
