Description Suggest change

As one of the smaller countries in Western Europe (under 12k square miles/31k square km), Belgium has a number of high quality climbing locations.

The rock is primarily limestone. The bulk of the climbing is located in the Meuse River Valley, near the cities of Namur and Dinant. These areas in southern Belgium are in a region known as "Wallonia" and are primarily French-speaking.

Rest days can be spent touring historical sites, visiting Trappist abbeys and enjoying the liquid fruits of their labors, eating mussels and fries (invented in Belgium?), chocolate, cheese...

Getting There Suggest change

Major airports are Brussels - Zaventem (BRU) and Brussels South - Charleroi (CRL).

Main motorways are E19 from the Netherlands, E40 from Germany, E411 from Luxembourg and E17 and E19 from France.

Other options would be bus, train and by sea (several car-ferry services available to/from the UK).

While a rental car would be very useful, it may also be possible to take advantage of the train lines as they serve towns very close to some of the climbing areas. Local buses would be an option as well.
