Description
Carderock, a small yet historically important climbing area. The scene of early advancements rock climbing techniques and difficulty. Once served by pubic transportation from the city, now by National Park Service roads, Carderock, on the north side of the Potomac River, inside C&O National Historic Park, just northwest of the Nation’s Capital is Washington D.C.’s most important and popular training area. The rock is Wissahickon Shist, it’s clean, gray and contains white quartz crystals. A poor man’s Rumney, New Hampshire or Giands, Chamonix or Wanaka, New Zeland. The rocks are about 40 feet high. The area is usually top roped using trees for anchors. Pads are helpful too. There are lots of hard foot work challenges. It's a beautiful area in the hardwood forest, with giant Sycamore Trees and wildflowers, that is peaceful, when the overhead jetway is quiet; but can get very busy with humans in peak times.
