Description
The Lighthouse Area is perhaps the best cliff at Point Perpendicular. The stone is excellent and the setting is beautiful. This crag hosts many of the best climbs. There is no walk out, so plan on fixing a rope for retreat/escape. Like many of the crags, there are two levels here. Most routes are located on the upper level and begin from the intermittent half-way ledge.
Getting There
Drive to the end of the dirt road (9.6KM) and park with the tourists in the Lighthouse car park. Walk south to the light house. A chainlink fence, known as the Enclosure, surrounds the lighthouse and the nearby 4-star cliff. To access the cliff it is necessary to skirt the end of this fence (on the NE side). Considering that at this point you will be crossing a fence on a military installation in a foreign country, you may want to keep a low profile. On the other hand, you may want a high-enough profile that it looks like you didn't think you were doing anything wrong.
Anyway, lean over the edge to identify your target, rig a rap anchor (do not anchor to the fence! The Navy views this as a liability issue) and rap down to your route.
