This is THE destination in La Crosse. Most all the routes on this wall would be classic at any larger crag like Barn Bluff. Currently there are 9 bolted lines here, with maybe 1 more in the making. The cliff is about 55 feet tall and overhangs by about 4 feet on many of the routes.

Getting There

To access the wall Park at the second to last pullout, and hike west and down along the powerline cut. Follow the trail straight for about 400yards, turn right towards the flag just after a large rock step. As always when on grandads keep a low profile, carry all gear concealed in a bag, and be safe. Tickets for climbing or hiking are almost 200$ .

The Meader Wall is one of the best sport crags in the state. It is small, but the routes there are hard and super fun. I'm grateful to have grown up with this as my home wall. Jun 27, 2007

Dave, Steve, and Fred have done an incredible job developing the whole area. They have recently practically excavated the Adidas Wall and put up 7 cool sport routes on it. Hats off to you guys. Jun 29, 2007

Two new routes have been drilled, and bolted.
New routes are:
Big Man on Campus at probably 5.12- with a bouldery feel
Man in the Black Pajamas very likely 5.13a featuring thin sustained crimping to a powerful crux stab. Nov 13, 2007

Can anyone give a better description from the second pullout on how to find the meader wall. perhaps starting from the addidas wall. Jun 1, 2009

From the addidas wall, walk to the main trail (about 50 yards away from the routes). Turn right. Walk approximately 100-200 yards down the main trail, until you see a small open area/"miniprairie" to your right. Follow a small trail across the open area to the cliff wall. The trail meets the wall at the Mushroom Wall-- look for the purple mushroom spray painted on the wall. Follow the trail to the left (around a small boulder) and walk along the cliff band. You will pass a few small walls including the Donkey Punch Wall. Walk ~5 minutes until you reach a dirt hill and the large open space at the base of the Meader Wall. The wall itself is ~ 100 feet in length and clean, large, and overhanging. You cannot miss it. If you find yourself asking, is this is? Then you haven't found it yet. It's pretty obvious, as well as being the last part of the trail that is right along the cliff band.

Or, you could just wander around a bit and look for bolts in the cliff. It's not all that tough to find. JW

Update. See photos under "Grandad's Bluff" for photo map to the walls. Jun 1, 2009
