Description

As one approaches the western end of cliff band that forms Echo Cliffs, along the Mishe Mokwa Trail, the great orange faces that make up the Dihedrals sector of Echo Cliffs come into view below the obvious spire of Balanced Rock. The Left Flank is the left page of the huge left most orange open book. The right side of the book is the Java Wall. The Left Flank is the farthest left or western end of the main cliff line. This wall contains seven routes ranging in difficulty from 5.8 - 5.10d.

The Left Flank is shaded in the morning and in the late afternoon and is extremely popular due the relatively modest approach compared to other parts of Echo Cliffs, the moderate grades, and its proximity to the Java Wall.

The route ends with the anchor on the wall to the right. This necessitates facing the anchor itself by stemming. If you find yourself too high in the corner and you should have turned around you will end up in trouble and have to clip from behind. Dec 30, 2013
