Description
Half Moon Rock is the obvious bald looking rock across the hollow south of Chimney Top Rock. It was once immensely popular with sport rappellers, but due to an ironic twist, their overuse has killed all the trees on top leaving future would be rappellers with no anchors to tie to.
The area was a popular climbing destination in the 1970s and early '80s, but with the development of newer and less crowded destiantions, Half Moon's heyday has waned.
The routes are good quality, but unfortunately due to the overuse of the area, are littered with garbage and coated with sand that has washed down from the treeless summit.
There is decent top and bottom access, which would make this area a great top roping spot, but as menitoned before, any anchors have long since died.
