Description
Very close to where Old Highway 40 crests the pass is this diminutive, yet powerful gymnast of a crag. Facing South, it laps up the sun for a good portion of the day. There is a left and right section of cliff separated by an alcove and running East-West (parallel to the Hwy).
The gymnastic element of the crag arises from it generally having undercut climbing to a roof. In other words, the cliff has a mushroom capped nature, so there is most often a roof to surmount. Which - in this fat ass trad dad's opinion, constitutes an athletic element, and probably accounts for the name of the crag.
There are 8-9 climbs here, although some paths are forgotten.
Getting There
Across the road from Sugar Bowl Academy and on the PCT just before it crosses South of Old Highway 40. Either approach from the West (Sugar Bowl Academy) direction, with a very short hike, or take a slightly longer hike from the Schoolhouse Crag parking and link up with the PCT which will take you directly to the base of the crag.
