Description
P1: 5.10 (30m) 6 bolts. From the Mussy hooks, climb the 5.4ish crack directly above. Small cams optional to the first bolt then a short headwall that climbs like a 5.10 sport route to the top of the strenuous flake. Traverse right of the flake, to a technical mantel, and climb a delicate, thin face to easier climbing and a jaunt to the last bolt and the “Charybdis” anchors on the right. Continue to the summit with a 5.0ish, 25m scramble that will pass a bolt for “Would You Go With Me?” and the top of “Baby Helens” with a summit block register and a beautiful view of “Acid Rock”.
If you continue “The Odyssey”, the next climb is “Highway to Helen” or “Odysseus,” which are visible on “Acid Rock” left of “Four Eyes” and “Scary Monsters.” A full 35m rappel just east and a few meters below the summit will land you in “The Birds Nest” between “Baby Helens” and “Acid Rock”, a small secluded alcove. Then a 5.0ish exposed scramble with a clear view of the north face will lead directly to the north end of the “Four Eyes” ledge.
For other routes on “Acid Rock,” down scramble to the top anchors for “Charybdis” or lower from the last bolt on “Would You Go With Me” Then rappel from the top anchors to the pothole ledge of “Charybdis.” From this rappel station, a 30m rappel towards “Acid Rock” will also set you up for the scramble to the “Four Eyes” ledge or other routes on “Acid Rock”.
Location
Follow the standard approach to the south side of “Baby Helens” which takes approximately 1 hour and is Class I to III with minor deadfall. Climb any of the “Baby Helens” south face routes to a pair of Mussy hooks at the bench below the summit block. The most direct and a classic line is “Strange Attractor”. If you are climbing “The Odyssey,” start with “Helen Was a Climber.”
