Description
Named for the great waterfall of the river Anduin in the Lord of the Rings, for this is a waterfall at the base of the rightmost gulley during winter. Scramble up some 4th class blocks past the 1st bolt onto the large ledge and begin in earnest. Route trends right until the 5th bolt before going closer to straight up. A long draw at the 5th bolt will minimize dogleg and help with drag.
Begins with easy slab that progressively steepens into overhanging jugs before you finally pull the bulge with a hundred feed of air under your heel. Spectacular position, thoughtful, fun movement and an absolutely breathtaking view from the top!
No clear crux or any single 5.10 move, just lots of sustained reaching between good edges. Further up, bolts get a bit further apart, but any fall here is into space. The pathway of the route has been cleaned, of moss and most of the dangerous choss. There remain loose holds but they do not come out by hand. If the rock gets filthy or incredibly loose, you are off route.
KNOT YOUR ROPE. We led this with an 80m, and there was at MOST 10m left after lowering.
All that said, this is a newer route and there are more than a few holds which are hollow or detached behind. If you tap it and it makes a deep tock sound, it's broken off behind, don't use it!
