Description
This is an easy and fun way to get to the top of the Upper Morell's Parking Lot routes for those that do not want to lead or hike around the back. It is not easier than the walk around, but way more fun!
Start right of "Seven Up" and execute a 4th class scramble up and right, aiming for the crack that goes under the right wing of the eagle (we did not rope up for this part).
Once under the wing with your crew, build a gear belay, rope up, and take a moment to enjoy the spectacular view. Your leader will then traverse climbers left under the eagle, placing enough gear to protect a follower on the traverse. This is basically a ledge.
Once you get to the next wing, downclimb slightly beneath the boulder under the Eagle's left wing. Now you have gotten to the only part of the climb that is low 5th class. Climb up the crack underneath the wing and you have arrived at the anchors for all of the climbs below.
Many would be comfortable soloing this, but a fall would not be enjoyable.
