Description Suggest change

No, you didn’t accidentally wander into the Red – the New River Gorge has it’s own Jesus Wept 12d, and it rather nicely demonstrates the difference between the two areas.  The Jesus Wept of the New has a shorter and much more savage crux that for some people will be a little bit type 2 fun.  Easy intro climbing gives way fairly quickly to some harder cranks and sequential moves before throwing you into the crux mono-mantle move.  The slot for this move has some bite to it, for better or worse.  Pick your finger of choice to sacrifice, cram it in, suck in that gut and push down for all its worth.  Like any standard NRG crux, having some reach will help here.  Once you gain the next hold it’s still not over – you are faced with either a strenuous clip or a rather committing move to finish out the crux.  Much easier climbing leads to the anchors.

Be aware that the bolts on this route are quite rusty as of fall 2022.

Location Suggest change

From Diamond Life head climber's right until you hit a big corner - Jesus Wept is on the adjacent face, just left of the Arete that defines The Cutting Edge 12b (and shares the start with that route)

Protection Suggest change

5 bolts.  (Full disclosure, I did not properly lead this route due to the condition of the bolts)
