Description Suggest change

"The" summit boulder ... big enough to climb, 15' by 8' by 5 ft, the base is smooth rock, padding is needed even though it's a steep trail to carry crash pads up ... Climbing options all over the boulder from V0 up ... you'll often find hikers on the top of the boulder "posing" for pics .... I haven't seen any other worthy boulders to climb at the summit, although there are some on the way up the trail.

Location Suggest change

Take DEC trail from the parking lot to the summit, probably takes 30-40 minutes when carrying equipment. The one mile trail is short, steep, and eroded in places, you'll be sweating at the top.

At the summit, which is the end of the DEC trail (and just past the fire tower) ... take the herd path right about 200 ft until you see the boulder, can't be missed.

Whiteface Mountain (Auto road side) is visible on clear days when looking left from summit ... the distant "High Peaks" can seen indistinctly looking straight ... they're about 50 miles away ...

Protection Suggest change

Mostly surrounded by bare, smooth rock, would be a hard landing without a crash pad.
