Description
The Larks when in prime condition is arguably the most premier and significant water ice route that will form at Tahquitz or any where else in
So Cal proper.
1000’ in length with overall straight forward mellow climbing until you hit the exposed last pitch. This crux pitch will form just right of El Wampo’s 5.4 roof and just left of the last pitch of the Larks. The last pitch of The Larks in the chimney can also be a fun alternate finish.
I have a fond memory when I first started searching out ice on this part of the wall in the winter of 2010 which was an amazing winter and we ice climbed until May.
One cold cold morning heading up to hopefully throw down on this sleeper classic we arrived at the base just barley at first light. We usually started the North East Face West route which is an alternate start that sticks around long after the rest of the route is gone. Upon first glance everything was amazing and when we peered up at the crux pitch that morning we were astounded to see not only the condition it was in but also to whiteness a team simul soloing through this pitch via headlamp. One of the coolest routes I have ever gotten to expariance and hope it holds again some day.
