The old saying "Do Not Judge A Book By Its Cover" very much applies here! We thought this would go much easier... but we were fooled badly. A Merlin is a very small raptor and a master of trickery. The start is a bit spicy (Anaheim) but the ending is a Serrano Pepper for sure! That last set of moves past the last bolt will bring on "Mexican Heart Burn"

On the NW side of Kestrel Tower which is mid way through the Flying Raptors Area. Edge top to tower 8 min.s

Four QDs and runners for the anchor on top of Kestrel Tower.

The top of Kestrel Tower was a mess of large blocks which we cleaned...except for that really big one (see photos) that would not budge. There are at least two more lines (see photos on the cover page) to be done on this bit of bird rock. The current anchor is only webbing and bail beaners. Sorry, I was out of chains and quicklinks. This will be replaced with durable hardware. Sep 26, 2014

Got on this route early on 7/13/15. According to the summit log we were only the 2nd party to climb it, which is hard to believe. A really fun, short, lead.
