Access Issue: Display Discover Pass, do not block gates, and park off the road
Details
DNR wants to pass on a friendly reminder to display your Discover Pass, not block any gates, and park well off the road to prevent getting ticketed or towed. Access Fund and Washington Climbers Coalition continue to partner with DNR on stewardship and management of the Gold Bar Boulders and their access sites. Access Issue: Recent timber harvest
Details
The recent DNR havest has completely revealed what used to be a roadside boulder tucked in the trees. Access Fund and WCC notified DNR about the Camp Serene (aka Zekes) boulder's historic and climbing value. They were not aware of the boulder problems, otherwise they would have reached out to consider shade trees like they did at the Gold Bar Boulders in 2017. We also noted that the contractors unintentionally moved a small boulder directly beneath the classic Serenity Now line. We asked them to have the contractors move it out of the way and they did the very next day. The current concern is the increased visibility. Retain moss where you can on the roadside to help deter tagging and grafitti. Notify info@washingtonclimbers.org if you see new grafitti that Access Fund, Washington Climbers Coalition, and DNR need to remove.
