Right next to Yellow Pages at East Animas, this is the next best beginner trad route in Durango. It is a little dirty but nothing compared to the Fishers!

Look for the perfect, 25 foot hand crack.

A standard rack will suffice. Two bolt anchor at the top. Long runners to extend the anchor if top roping.

I agree wholeheartedly with the description. Nice beginner trad lead, right up there with yellow pages in East-A.

The handcrack is really fun (I placed one BD #0.75, one #1, and one #3, all in that order, IIRC). After that, there are two rest stops (ledges), where you advance up the rest of the crack through small overhangs to a two-bolt anchor. Not nearly as hard as the left X, so I would rate it 5.6. Perhaps eight years ago, I led a beginner up this. The handcrack was fun but very short; the remainder was dangerous blocks. I see that a bolted anchor has since sprouted. I wonder if the remainder has been cleaned up. If not, I would NOT recommend this to a beginning leader. Feb 27, 2018

Last time I climbed this was last fall and it didn't really find any looseness. It is still very dirty and sandy and is practically unclimbable for a few days after a good rain. But no loose blocks. I would say that it would be a good beginner lead if it got more traffic and wasn't so sandy all the time, but even then I think yellow pages is probably easier. Mar 2, 2018
