Description Suggest change

This is a wide flow (100') of good ice with several different lines possible. The center is the steepest, with two short steps. Both the right and left sides offer stepped WI 2. There are various belay trees, and you can scramble off either to the right or left of the falls. Named after the Copeman's Tomb, the commanding dolomite butte which looms well above this stretch of the gorge.

Location Suggest change

About 200m upstream from Survey Creek Falls on the north side of Shell Creek (opposite Highway 14). Approach as for Survey Creek Falls, and follow Shell Creek upstream, hugging the banks and making a couple of crossings on ice bridges whenever necessary. This may be more problematic early season, but this stretch of the creek is wider, shallower, and should freeze over better than further down the Gorge.

Protection Suggest change

Screws and slings. Tree anchors.
