Access Issue: Seasonal Raptor Closures ***** RAIN AND WET ROCK ***** The sandstone in Zion is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. Holds rip off and climbs have been and will continue to be permanently damaged due to climbers not respecting this phenomenon. After a heavy storm the rock will remain wet, sometimes for several days. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB IN ZION during or after rain. A good rule of thumb is that if the ground near your climb is at all damp (and not powdery dry sand), then do not climb. There are many alternatives (limestone, granite, basalt, and plastic) nearby. Description

Blocky start to the first tree with a cord around it about 15' feet up. From that point it turns into an off-width flake that can either be jammed or lie-backed up to the second tree with slings (backed up with a nut). Moving from the tree to the crack above is the crux, don't use the tree to yard up, it will break. From there is a hand/fist cruise, the only redeeming part of the climb, I guess.

Location

As you come around the corner from the Grotto, the first turn out on the right side. If you ask real nice the bus driver might just let you off right there otherwise its a short walk. The 'climbers' trail is really faint here but head pretty much straight at the cliff.

Protection

A .75 works for the start, then goes to Camalot 3 and up after the first tree with a big piece nice going into the roof. After the tree pro goes at Camalot 2 to the anchor. Either rap to first or second tree then to ground, a 60m rope wont make the ground.
