The Mountain Project forum relies on community-led flagging and a core set of guidelines to stay healthy, inviting, and useful. Please treat people with respect and use proper gender pronouns. Be considerate of everyone's ethnicity, sex, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, religion, political affiliation, nationality, body type, age, size, and ability. If you have a problem with someone, do not post publicly about it. If your post contains potentially triggering content, state a clear trigger warning at the beginning. Hate speech, sexually explicit or violent material, bullying, repeated harassment, and hate slurs of all kinds will not be tolerated. Flame wars and trolling — defined as back-and-forth exchanges characterized by personal attacks, or posting in bad faith to sow discord — may also be removed.

Vetting buyers and sellers is crucial — accounts that are new or have limited activity are frequently used in scams. Avoid high-risk payment methods such as PayPal "gift" payments, wire transfers, or Western Union; use PayPal credit card payments or other fraud-protected systems instead. Be alert to sellers who rush transactions, refuse reasonable confidence-building requests (e.g. a photo of the gear with a piece of paper including the seller's info), or refer you to a different email address. Flag posts from suspected scammers so the team can investigate quickly. Sharing names and email addresses of bad actors in the forum is well-intentioned but not particularly effective, as scammers can change these details easily and may even impersonate legitimate users.
